Green Light for SanCap Bank’s New Fort Myers Beach Branch on Estero Boulevard

Fort Myers Beach’s Local Planning Agency gave unanimous approval this week to SanCap Bank’s plan for a new branch on Estero Boulevard — a green light that marks another milestone in the island’s steady rebuild.

The bank bought the .41-acre parcel at 2670/2680 Estero Boulevard, directly across from the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, for $1.795 million about two years ago. The approved design calls for an elevated two-story bank and office building set above an open ground level that will hold access, service areas, storage, drive-through facilities and landscaped grounds. The planning agency also signed off on the variances the project needed.

Before Hurricane Ian, that lot held a real estate office with a vacation rental above it — now another empty island parcel has a new purpose in sight. A SanCap spokesperson called the unanimous approval “an important milestone,” adding that a groundbreaking date will be confirmed as planning progresses.

It is the familiar rhythm of Fort Myers Beach these days: lots that sat quiet after 2022 slowly coming back to life as businesses commit to the island for the long haul. New buildings, new services and fresh investment are exactly the kind of momentum that makes the beach town feel like itself again.
