Fort Myers Lands at No. 35 Nationwide — and No. 1 in Southwest Florida — for Snowbirds

Fort Myers is the top snowbird destination in Southwest Florida — and one of the best in the country.

A new StorageCafe study ranking the best places for winter residents in 2026–27 placed Fort Myers at No. 35 nationally, ahead of every other community in the region. Cape Coral came in at No. 100, followed by North Fort Myers (112), Port Charlotte (114), Naples (115), Punta Gorda (117) and Marco Island (172).

The study weighed 472 U.S. cities on the things that matter most to seasonal residents: climate, housing affordability, healthcare, safety and recreation. Florida was dominant overall, claiming 63 of the top 100 spots, led by Winter Haven. Among the seven local communities ranked, North Fort Myers posted the lowest median home price at $161,800, while Naples was highest at $1.53 million.

For Southwest Florida, the showing is a reminder of why seasonal residents keep pointing their calendars south — the region scored well on exactly the factors the study weighed most.

For Fort Myers Beach, the timing is ideal. The island heads into peak season — roughly December through April — with rebuilt restaurants, refreshed beaches and a full slate of winter events on the calendar.
