On Monday, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council voted unanimously to move a new boutique hotel project forward to a second public hearing — a meaningful step for a site that has sat empty since Hurricane Ian.
Planned for 5601–5607 Estero Boulevard, the four-story resort calls for 30 units and roughly 3,500 square feet of commercial space, including a restaurant, a coffee and sundries shop open to the public, and a rooftop pool for guests. Before Ian, the same .63-acre parcel held a 23-unit motel. If approved, the development order and permitting are expected to take 12–18 months, followed by another 12–18 months of construction.
For the island, it’s another sign of rebuilding with intention — adding walkable lodging, dining, and retail to the mid-island corridor while replacing what was lost.
One empty lot at a time, Fort Myers Beach keeps writing its comeback story.
