Fort Myers Beach is going to the dogs — and the cats, birds, and goldfish — on Saturday, October 3, when St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church opens its courtyard for a community-wide Blessing of the Pets.
The 10 a.m. gathering marks the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Dogs and cats are welcome on leashes or in carriers, and birds, fish, and other companion animals are invited too. Anyone who can’t bring their pet along can bring a photograph instead and still receive an individual blessing. The church is at 5601 Williams Drive, and refreshments will be served afterward.
Organizers will preview the event on Beach Talk Radio this Saturday morning. There is no cost and no membership requirement — the whole island is invited, year-round residents and visiting families alike.
