Fort Myers Beach is one step closer to a brand-new community pool. At a meeting this week, Opulent Pools presented a design for a pool complex at the Bay Oaks recreation campus, and the proposal now heads to the Bay Oaks committee for review before moving toward a final design.

The plans are ambitious in the best way. The main pool includes lap lanes, two slides and waterfall features, while a separate kids splash pad comes with water cannons and its own slides. A walking path wraps the whole complex with shaded seating, ten to twelve tiki huts are planned for parties and events, and there’s even a dedicated pet area – a thoughtful touch on an island where so many visitors travel with their dogs. The goal, according to the presentation, is to make the pool a destination on Fort Myers Beach.

The project is funded through the town’s $13 million Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery award, which is also earmarked for the Newton Beach Park rebuild and the north end water tower. Design costs run $135,000, and once the final design is approved, permitting and construction are expected to take about a year.
