Sand Sculpting Championship Returns to Fort Myers Beach Nov. 19–23

Fort Myers Beach is getting its sandcastle moment again. The 36th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship returns to the island November 19–23 at DiamondHead Beach Resort, bringing 29 of the nation’s top master and advanced amateur sculptors to the sand — artists traveling in from 10 states and 5 countries to compete.

This year’s theme, “Stars, Stripes & Sand: Sculpting the American Story,” ties into the 250th anniversary of the United States, with competitors shaping massive works of art around the people, places, and symbols that define American history. The event is presented by the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with The Sand Lovers, LLC, and DiamondHead Beach Resort.

For anyone planning a visit, the Chamber is advising attendees to book lodging early — the championship reliably fills hotel rooms across the island during an otherwise quieter stretch of the calendar. It’s one more sign of how far Fort Myers Beach has come since the rebuild, and a great reason to plan a late-November getaway. Event updates and details: www.fmbsandsculpting.com.
