Bowditch Point Park Gets $3.9 Million Restoration — Construction Begins This Year
Fort Myers Beach’s beloved Bowditch Point Regional Park is getting a major upgrade. This week, the Lee County Board of County Commissioners awarded a $3.9 million contract to Vantage Construction Services to fully repair and restore the 17-acre waterfront park — a long-awaited milestone for residents and visitors alike.
The project goes well beyond simple repairs. Plans include rebuilding park buildings, boardwalks, parking areas, sidewalks, picnic shelters, trails, and beach access points, plus a full replacement of the 10-slip boat dock. New landscaping will remove invasive vegetation and add native plants, making the park more resilient and more beautiful than before.
Funding comes from the Florida Division of Emergency Management Legislative Appropriations Program, Lee County’s general fund, and Tourist Development Taxes collected on short-term lodging — meaning visitors themselves have helped pay for this community asset.
Construction could begin as early as August or September and is expected to take about 10 to 11 months. When it reopens, Bowditch Point will offer improved accessibility, safer walkways, upgraded restrooms, and a better experience for everyone who loves this park — from morning walkers and sunset watchers to kayakers launching from the boat dock.
It’s another clear sign that Fort Myers Beach isn’t just rebuilding — it’s coming back better.
